Someone recently informed me that Alien Planet was being displayed on a new 3d platform:
ExitReality
http://www.exitreality.com
So I checked it out by downloading the browser (click on the signup button, its only a 3.7 mb download).
I was glad to be able to get in a world on dial up though it did take a long time opening the first world which had lots of audio (and possibly multi media) files.
Hint: to save time click on Alien Planet soon as you see it in places if you are on dialup to bypass the first world's lengthy load.
ExitReality is only at a beta stage but I am impressed by the way it can open worlds and avatars that use Blaxxun specific nodes and script functions.
Even the chat commands for Alien planet worked when I used the chat messenger!
My single mesh animated avatars which uses a Blaxxun specific script function work so I guess any avatars from avatar studio will too.
ExitReality have a range of their own avatars which can be selected inside the browser. Their avs look higher quality than those produced by avatar studio except the textures never seem to fully load for me (possibly they do when not on dialup).
ExitReality does not have text to speech synth but it has a number of interesting features of its own.
I doubt it has the Blaxxun crash bug and it has no floating logo but it is not open source software so beware of what its future may hold but it is exciting to see old Blaxxun VRML content getting this kind of support from a competitor.
If you install ExitReality it will become your default VRML browser for single-user online wrls (like most VRML browsers when you install them) so you will have to re-register or reinstall contact afterwards if you want Contact to be restored as your default browser for single-user online wrls.
