ExitReality Blaxxun Competitor

Someone recently informed me that Alien Planet was being displayed on a new 3d platform:

ExitReality
http://www.exitreality.com

So I checked it out by downloading the browser (click on the signup button, its only a 3.7 mb download).
I was glad to be able to get in a world on dial up though it did take a long time opening the first world which had lots of audio (and possibly multi media) files.
Hint: to save time click on Alien Planet soon as you see it in places if you are on dialup to bypass the first world's lengthy load.
ExitReality is only at a beta stage but I am impressed by the way it can open worlds and avatars that use Blaxxun specific nodes and script functions.
Even the chat commands for Alien planet worked when I used the chat messenger!
My single mesh animated avatars which uses a Blaxxun specific script function work so I guess any avatars from avatar studio will too.
ExitReality have a range of their own avatars which can be selected inside the browser. Their avs look higher quality than those produced by avatar studio except the textures never seem to fully load for me (possibly they do when not on dialup).
ExitReality does not have text to speech synth but it has a number of interesting features of its own.
I doubt it has the Blaxxun crash bug and it has no floating logo but it is not open source software so beware of what its future may hold but it is exciting to see old Blaxxun VRML content getting this kind of support from a competitor.
If you install ExitReality it will become your default VRML browser for single-user online wrls (like most VRML browsers when you install them) so you will have to re-register or reinstall contact afterwards if you want Contact to be restored as your default browser for single-user online wrls.

Tried it and the default world works fine, but IE & Crazy Browser crash when I go anywhere else. I'll keep looking into it.....Okay, figured it out, looks like they got their world list from Rick's server. Works really well tho. Unfortunately, I'm running a quad core PC with 2 video cards & 4 gig of ram, so I am not the best judge of what it's minium requirements are :-)

Yes, but for what kind of computers ?
How RAM, space HDD, speed of processor ?
What Video-card ?
:D
Exist many 3d files players:
IMVU:
http://www.imvu.com/
Second Life
http://secondlife.com/
.
.
.

'Blaxxun' can run on low computers, without more hard resources ... And it work very well ! :D
I'll try this 'ExitReality'. ThankYou for this information.

I have not crashed yet while using ExitReality and I have gone through a good many worlds now but I have not experienced many people join and leave a world which is the most likeliest time for one to crash in blaxxun.

It did cross my mind tutancamon that this was contact under the bonnet because of the high compatibility factor but I doubt very much blaxxun or bitmanagement is behind it.
According to this page:
http://www.techcrunch.com/tag/exitreality/

ExitReality is based in Britain/Australia not Germany and has existed since 2002 (around the same time Holger left Blaxxun and created Bitmangement)

My guess is ExitReality is trying hard to make it friendly for blaxxun contact users as well as making it more in fashion with youtube and myspace.

BOSS, see the file named exitgeneratorMessenger.exit. He is similar with ccpro.bxx.
Then,
1) mouse menu of 'ExitReality' is similar with mouse menu of 'Blaxxun Contact'
2)*.exit file is similar with *.bxx file
3) all most parameters of 'Blaxxun Contact 5.1' are exactly like on 'ExitReality'
4) all most methods and properties of 'Blaxxun Contact 5.1' are exactly like on 'ExitReality'

And, You are sure ? 'Black Sun' is not from U.S.A. ? And 'Cortona' from Russia ?

Anyway, 'ExitReality' is an enteresting application.

Blaxxun (once named Black Sun) had an office or at least a telephone number in the USA but it was never based there.

Holger the programmer who developed both Blaxxun & Bitmangemnt Contact is from Germany. (Bitmangemnt is based in Germany)
http://home.snafu.de/hg/

Peter Graf one of the founding members of Blaxxun and who wrote the Blaxxun servers is from Germany:

http://www.mission-base.com/peter/cve.html

Hermetic Cab (from http://www.cyworx.com) worked in a Blaxxun office in Germany, you can ask him on his own forum what Blaxxun coffee tasted like ;)

It is easy to make menus and dialog boxes look identical if both use the windows API to do this (which most likely they do) and if you arrange everything in the same order.
I purposefully tried to make Seamless3d familiar to users of Avatar Studio (why I used walking legs for the Anim node's icon):
http://www.seamless3d.com/tut/av_studio/index.html
but Seamless3d of course is also very different (and offers a lot more artistic freedom) and is in no way a copy.

Blaxxun did make the source files for Contact 4.3 open source for a while (and maybe still do) but ExitReality is obviously much more than Contact 4.3.
Because ExitReality's chat window is completely different yet retains the same layout, this tells us they are trying to keep familiarity on purpose.

The source code for Contact 4.3 did not include the chat component.
Contact 4.3 would not be able to display YouTube, MySpace, Bepo etc.(they did not exist then)

ExitReality does not seem to natively support hanim nodes.
I made a simple animated triangle and output it as a wrl using hanim nodes.
Contact has no problem opening it except it warns they are not standard nodes for VRML where as ExitReality displays:

Unknown Node class "HAnimHumanoid"

in the console.

This tells us it is not contact 6.0 to 7.1

ExitReality does not seem to utilise any analogue input from the mouse for navigating in the 3d scene like contact 4.3 and up do.

Remember Internet Explorer began as a program that mimicked many of Netscape's features. IE still tells the server it is Mozilla when it does a HTTP GET command (but it also sends information to let servers know it is IE if they can understand such an extension).
