As for getting multiuser working with a different server.
Download this file and put it on a webserver running on the same machine as the seamless3d server.
But first edit the line below
http://www.seamless3d.com/wrl/test_mu/test_mu.smls
MultiUser{
ip "144.138.47.95"
}

If its the same computer as the one you have seamless3d running on just use 127.0.0.1 as the IP value.

I tried it & got the same results as Vomad. Remember testors that in order to see anyone outside on the internet you need to have a static outside IP or dynamic DNS, People from the outside will not be able to see a local ip, such as 192.198.0.0 etc. Good work Thyme and I will contunue to test

Oups, I probably come too late and you've already shut down the server.

I get an error message at login, which I can't get to read, because the program-shutdown window pop's up and overlay's it. Dragging the shutdow pop-up just draws a white background.

I'm running XP Home SP2. and my ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 is reported to be responsible for 80% of my program hang-ups.

I'll keep on trying.

Regards,

Peter

The server does not have to run from your computer tutancamon but like any server it has to run from a computer somehwere

Yes sir. But I use free sites, without pay none money. I don't wont to buy none web spaces, but I wont to use web spaces. And You know, not all free sites has SQL for free. => necesity for VRML Server Emulators, who don't have SQL, ports and sokets.

Sir, VRML Server Emulators are the future's servers, this servers will be very popular for VRML users.

Peter and X, have the first VRML Server Emulator from all the world. They are pioneers on this kind of servers class.

Well, sorry, my AMD Duron computer is not so good for Your server/client package.

Thanks Peter and Alain for testing :) but yes Peter my server would have been offline when you and Alain tested but it is back running again. I am not sure yet if all the problems were due to bad timing (when I close the server for a moment) or perhaps firewalls on other computers, my brother SteveTheGong from a different part of the country just logged in fine and the gestures worked well :) so try again anyone please if you have the time :)

Don't worry tutancamon the server does not have to run on your computer, I just wanted to test things out, thanks for your help :)

YESSSSS! It's working!

I eventually found myself in triplicate in the green fields with Master Thyme, Esq.
I could dance and sing, and all was bliss.
Hopefully Mr. Thyme does not mind being crowded by Blaxxies...
These worlds will grow at an astonishing rate.

Keep up the good work, this is exciting!

I can sense some possibilities for realtime cooperative worldbuilding here.

Just another arctic dispatch:

The seamless server also worked right out of the box. I ran it here on the home puter (the IP almost never changes), and put the smls multiuser world pointing to this IP at afoto.com. Works just fine, thanks!

Naturally, I have a few questions:

A. How do you close the chatbox without shutting Seamless down?

B. The initial server/av URL seem hardcoded to your domain, could this be made configurable?

C. Sometimes I use dyndns.org to have free DNS service for my home computer as vardo.dyndns.org. The Seamless server appears to take only a numeric IP. It would be nice if it could make a (dyn)DNS query, get the current IP, and use that. This would make it very easy for hobbyists to run a multiuser SMLS world at home. Personally I use "BarracudaDrive" here at home to run web services.

D. Do you have plans to implement collaborative worldbuilding? Since all visitors already have the world in their seamless modelers it may be possible to merge whatever nodes they add in close to realtime. (presubably with some measure of coordination to avoid chaos and apocalypse now

In any case, this is all so much FUN!

Sounds good :) I will try writting a simple help page for setting up the server

Great to hear you logged in tutancamon

tutancamon wrote:But where are the chat window ?

From looking at your screenshot my guess is simply the main window (the 3d window) is too small.
Try double clicking on the title bar or just dragging the edges of the main window untill you see the chat window
I will make the next version of seamless so that it moves its own windows automatically into view if the main window is too big
