I spoke to Petra Nemcova yesterday!!!!!

Postby thyme » 19 Jun 2006, 07:48

At Petra's official site:

http://www.petranemcova.com

She has her own forum (like we all have today :)) which I joined and which she occasionally posts too but most of the postings are from fans of course. I received a message from her forum saying Petra was going to speak in a yahoo group chat in a few days time. Though I gave it some thought I did not think I would attend but as fate would have it I woke up early in the night yesterday morning and realised she would be online chatting in just 4 hours time. My curiosity of fame got the better of me and thought how amazing it would be to speak to an international super model who has become part of seamless's history. It is her beauty I have spent most of my time trying to capture for my avatars and I made a Petra avatar in 2003 to demonstrate anyone can make an avatar without needing advanced techy skills. I think too its fair to say that my more recent Sophie avatars also are much influenced from Petra's looks.
I often thought how good it would be if beautiful models had their looks and expressions digitised for 3d graphics so thought this would be the question I would ask her, if she had ever considered it.

Rather late to the dead line I thought it might be wise to download the latest yahoo messenger. Because the installation wanted to download everything including the yahoo bar and kitchen sink I thought I had missed my chances but luckily Petra was late to join the yahoo group chat so this was not a problem.

When she arrived I was very impressed how she looked on the webcam.
Webcams are typically not the most flattering to one's looks but Petra's looks and gentle warm personalty came through beautifully.
I heard her answering most people's questions quite well and the frame rate was very good for my rat chewed modem lead connection way out here in the outback of Australia far from civilisation.

With my fingers shaking a little on the keyboard I got my question ready and posted it feeling it a little silly but very excited at the same time :)

It took a while for her answering all the others to get to my question and I am not entirely sure she answered it because at this critical time her voice was breaking up!

However I am 98% sure she did answer little me lol I thought I heard her say something like she was not sure what is currently possible with this technology but there were so few words that got through all the drop outs I really don't have much idea what she said lol.

A little disappointed about this but it was very exciting at the time and when I think about how unbelievable all this sounds for a recluse living out in the country to have experienced, I will certainly remember this for the rest of my life :)

You can see in the following picture me in the chat list and "urbanskilisa" who was logged in with the computer Petra used for the webcam.

Here are just 5 of over 60 screen shots I took of Petra in the webcam.

I must mention too Petra is much involved in charity work since her tragic ordeal with the tsunami
Anyone can help out by going to her site:

http://www.petranemcova.com/

to find out about her happy hearts fund she founded in 2005.

http://www.give2asia.org/happyheartsfund/

By Purchasing Petra's book, "Love Always, Petra" written by herself, you help by the proceeds benefiting the Fund

Wow Thyme, nice news!

Petra looks very nice on that webcam, she should really beauty, because web cams tend to make people ugly.

You should send her an email or to her forum and suggest her to look your work, sure she will like it.

You should be bery happy for having talked to her at last!

Thanks for given us all to know your experience!

Nice to see the internet used for positive purposes :-) I sometimes get frustrated to the piont of thinking www stands for "World Wide Wasteland".

The Blaxxun community is still free Prototyper but no longer seems to have voice support :(
You can download contact still for free from the blaxxun site:

http://www.blaxxun.com

My links for avatars and worlds is here:

http://www.seamless3d.com/links

Check out Jockina's great list that's more up-to-date and had even more work put into it than mine :)

http://www.bonsurf.net/chats.htm

I hope to have seamless chat available in the future, It will support voice and will be open and free for ever :)

Thanks Omind and Alain for expressing your views :)
I like to think that if you work towards something like art that gives you pleasure it will be of value to others and one's own ego if you share it :)
Where as art work that is compromised by money or by getting on the latest band-wagon tends to be less creative and of less value for all.
