I installed Seamless onto an old laptop running Vista for my grandson, when I try running the program I get a dialog saying entry point not found. Help please

Hi Ron
After googling: entry point not found
I learnt a number of programs can show this message when there is a missing DLL file. Your message should state the missing DLL.

If you can download the missing DLL/s from a trustworthy site and put them in the same folder seamless3d.exe is in, the problem will be solved but finding the files may not be so easy especially if a specific version of the DLL is needed.

I think there is a good chance that if you install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) you will fix this problem.

If none of this helps I may be able to help if you let me know what DLLs is mentioned in your message.

Best of Luck

Re: missing dll

Thanks for your help, this did not show up before, this time it says (the procedure entry point SetGestureConfig could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll.)Should that not be in-staled with the download? or is it a problem with Vista? uninstalling and new download did not make it work. Kind of nervous about down loading that from the net. any suggested precautions?

Ron, Seamless would not normally need this DLL in it's folder because it is part of the Windows operating system but for some reason your system is not giving it to seamless on start up. Perhaps this problem is related to windows update no longer being supported for Vista however to my understanding all Windows computers should have a USER32.dll file. Try searching for it in your C:\Windows\System32 folder and copy (Do NOT move it) it to your C:\Program Files\Seamless3d folder.
If you can't find it in your System32 folder try searching all folders in your C:\Windows folder.

Hi Alain thanks for the helpful photo.

To my understanding all previous versions of Seamless3d would need the file User32.dll

Many programs need this common file.

If you can put a copy of this file (make a copy of it do NOT move it) in the same folder that Seamless3d.exe is in, it will be available to seamless when you run seamless.

Ron did not reply to my last message so I do not know if this will work:

Search for a User32.dll file in your C:\Windows\System32 folder and copy (Do NOT move it) it to your C:\Program Files\Seamless3d folder.
If you can't find it in your System32 folder, try searching all folders in your C:\Windows folder.

Some other program on your computer should need this file so it should be in your computer somewhere.

Please let me know if you can find this file or not and what your result is.

best wishes

Thyme

Hi Thyme,
thank you for your response but it seems to not work.
I had seamless 3d 3.002 that worked very well, with vista. But I do not find the setup file.

thanks for the update Alain. I have made a page where you can download previous versions here:
http://seamless3d.com/download/previous-versions.html

If 3.002 works I will be interested to know if 3.005 also works.

Hi Thyme,
Thanks for the page for downloads of previous versions.
No, 3.005 doesn't work but 3.003 works. Maybe they need user32.dll of windows 7 ?

Thanks much for your reply Alain.
I am now suspecting that the problem for versions earlier than Windows 10 may have come after I added pen support.
To verify this you can download seamless3d-3.006-for-win7.zip which I have I have just added to the list:

http://seamless3d.com/download/previous-versions.html

After downloading just unzip and run the seamless3d.exe file

This is the latest version of Seamless3d with the wacom files removed.

Please let me know if this works.

this doesn't work either

Thanks Alain, that narrows it down a bit.

You're under no obligation of course but I would appreciate you testing seamless3d-3.003-compiled-on-win10.zip from:
http://seamless3d.com/download/previous-versions.html

This zip file contains 3.003 which we know runs on your computer but this version has been compiled in windows 10. If this fails to run it will suggest the problem is due to seamless being compiled with a later version of windows library files rather than any of the code in seamless being changed.

Hi Alain, sorry if I confused the issue.
I understood you are not using win 10, I just want to clarify there is a problem when a version of seamless we know runs OK on your system, will fail if it is compiled with my current set up. I have wondered if there is any possibility the problem is caused by compiling on windows 10. I am using the same compiler I have used since 2010. Therefore the code I am currently compiling should be exactly the same except for the code that comes from the Windows libraries I am compiling with which may have changed. If however this freshly compiled version runs fine for you then we will know the libraries I am using are not the problem. I just want to narrow down the possibilities.

Hi,
you know, I don't want to change the operating system of my computer ! If I understand, you want me to test if this version 3.003 for win10 works on my vista sp2 ! Well, it works !

Hi Alain, great to see the model you have made with seamless, thanks much for posting it, that made my day D Smile and thanks for testing this version of 3.003 compiled on win 10, this narrows things down but it remains a mystery why 3.006 fails to run on Vista. If I can find the time I may try installing XP onto an old drive so that I can see what can be done to get 3.006 running on an older version of windows. 3.003 will let you practice your modelling skills which is what I do every day however you will need 3.005 or up if you want to do animation. So if you get to the stage where you want to do this or want some help on something else please let me know.
best wishes

Hi thyme, thank you for your response. I'm just trying to make my own bust, a self portrait. But i have another question, how can i put two characters on the same space work ?

Hi Alain,
Making a self portrait can be a fun exercise. I have played about doing this. I would like to make a video on this some time.

If you want to import a model from another file and keep the imported model isolated, from the file menu select: import->all nodes from file

You can select each model by opening the scene tree window and clicking on one of the blue nodes that belongs to the model you want to select. Then the buttons you use in modelling mode will apply to the selected model. You can move a model about in the 3d scene by selecting the Seamless node (the node that looks like a yellow red robot) and changing the Seamless node's translation and orientation fields. You will however want to model with these fields set to their default values (translation = 0 0 0 rotation = 0 0 1 0) or it may be confusing with the control cage being in a different location/orientation to the mesh. If you want some pictures to guide you let me know and I will write a simple tutorial showing what exactly to click on.

Make sure you make plenty of back ups of your work when you do this sort of thing in case you end up saving a file that can not be opened after it is closed.

Hi thyme

I believe the problem is due to the handler of the WM_GESTURENOTIFY message that was added to mouse2dHandler in winmain.cpp in 3.005. It is the only place that calls SetGestureConfig. It also looks very much like an aborted test, that you may have forgotten about.

If not a test and the call to SetGestureConfig actually has side effects that are needed, then you may want to use GetProcAdress to avoid the "entry point not found" error on XP and Vista.

Your Response:

Thanks John for this helpful info. After your post I tried compiling the latest version of seamless using VC2010 with the WM_GESTURENOTIFY message removed and it ran fine on WinXP. I also tried it with WM_GESTURENOTIFY message left in and got the "entry point not found" pop-up so that verifies the problem is as you said.

I have not found any problem so far with removing WM_GESTURENOTIFY.

WinXP, Vista as well as Win10 users can now download this pre-release version of 3.007 from one of the links on the download page.

Many thanks
